The Commission has a 10-Member Governing Council headed by the Chairman who is appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the State Attorney: General and Commissioner for Justice, subject to confirmation by the State House of Assembly.
The membership of the Governing Council is drawn from stakeholders in the Administration of Justice such as; the Ministry of Justice, Judiciary, Police Force, Nigeria Correctional Services, Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps, Nigerian Bar Association, Ministry of Women Affairs & a non-governmental organization.
The Council is responsible for policy formulation and is expected to meet at least four times each year. Members of the council other than the Director General hold office for a renewable term of four years on a part time basis.
The Director General of the Commission is in charge of the day to day running of the commission as the Chief Executive Officer. He/ She is also a member of the Governing Council. He/ She is appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Attorney General for a five-year renewable term.
